I am looking for, but cannot find, Windows 10 drivers for at least two devices on this notebook. Hi: There is a major problem with the business support site which crashed on August 1 and had not been fixed to date. The first ID is the JMicron card reader that needs the driver. I have an EliteBook 8740w, Windows 7 pro - 64. System indicates my CD is no longer recognized and that driver is corrupted.'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)'
CD is indicated in Device Manager as DVDRAM GT30L but is listed as a Standard CD-ROM drive and gives on specifics on manufacturer. How can I get to and download a new driver?

Eapen, Welcome the the HP Forum. I must assume the TouchPad worked before -- say earlier today, yesterday, some time in the recent past. It may be 'tangled' and need a quick driver reset:Close all your programs and Shut down the computerDisconnect everything (little Unifier for the keyboard / external mouse can stay)Perform the Hard Reset for your notebookBoot the computer and log in NOTE: This does NOT wipe out your data. It is just a 'clearing of the cobwebs'. With a bit of luck, that will fix it up. I just installed Windows 8.1 on my Elitebook 8470p Trying to get to the driver page so that I can load missing drivers. Unable to get to the page when searching via the 'driver download' support site. Let me know if there is an alternate way to get the necessary drivers.

I have a problem with my EliteBook 8470P labtop, I wanted to upgrade the BIOS from F40 to F46, I have downloaded the upgrade form HP website and tried to install it, the computer has restarted and asked me for an administration password, after that I could not access the BIOS setup, my computer is new and I did not set a password for the BIOS.
Please tell me what to do :-(

I am going to buy the EliteBook 8470P with the standard resolution as this is all that is offered from my chosen retailer. However can I have the screen upgraded at the HP Service Centre in the UK to the HD+ option at a later date? Of course, I will pay for this as this is an upgrade not a repair.

Hello Everybody elitebook Expert!
My laptop config in short: i5-3320m 2.60GHz with integrated graphics Intel HD4000, 4GB Ram.
I don't like the elitebook 8470p cooling system and i can't see the normal reason of the machanism.
So, there is no problem when the laptop is on AC power, the fan is on and works well and this is ok.
But, i have problem when the laptop is on Battery because when the laptop is in idle mode the fan is not working but stay.
Only starts then just when it attains the 55 degrees. This is not good, moreover it is bad for me, i dont like it because it is warm.
I want the ventilator to work so when the machine is on AC power everytime on Battery too.
In the BIOS there is no option for that and i can't see why...
Plase help me! I need a program what can turn on the fan when the laptop is on battery or a tweaker or something else i don't know what but i need something.

(I know that there is a newer BIOS but i don't think so that there is an option in the new that can handle the fan on battery mode).

I understand that CPU FAN does not work on battery mode in windows mode however it works in BIOS mode.
firstly, as you know BIOS has control over CPU fan and CPU thermal table - however OS has better thermal managements. once PC is up, BIOS information and thermal control is handles by OS. to trigger a change it has to be still routed through firmware only however instructions are based on the BIOS thermal table and windows power management.
we know the thermal management of windows is better
